Salmon in the Classroom

The "Salmon in the Classroom" (SITC) project has successfully run in Scotland since 1991 when the Galloway Fisheries Trust, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Dumfries and Galloway Education Department started a pilot project in Dumfries and Galloway.

The project continues to be very popular. In recent years, individual Fisheries Trusts, River Trusts and District Salmon Fishery Boards have run similar projects around Scotland.

The "salmon in the classroom" project ran in five Aberdeen shire schools in 2007/2008 with great success and it is hoped to build apon that success.

The River DonTrust are very supportive of this project and intends to encourage more youngsters to take an interest in nature and the environmemt specifically through  "salmon in the classroom" in 2009/2010.

The River Don Trust is actively bidding for funding to continue and extend this initiative and are currently awaiting the result of our application.
