Obstruction removal project (29th Sept)

All the major obstructions on Donside have now had a engineers survey completed to assess the best way of easing them for fish migration. We are now awaiting the report before developing a plan to remove or ease these. we will then embark on a fund raising programme to fund this. Once completed this will open up many hundreds of km of juvenile habitat.

River Don Trust News Update (24 th. Mar)

 The River Don  Trust are also pleased to announce that applications made to date to RAFTS for funding in respect of the following projects have been successful

  • Salmon in the classroom
  • Engineering assessments for river obstructions
  •  Atlantic salmon Genetic Sampling and Analysis

In the next few weeks the river Don Trust will be launching a “Friends of the River Don” initiative which, for the payment of a relatively small sum “the friends”, depending on whether a business individual etc, will be sent the latest update reports, newsletters and information relating to the Don on a regular basis
. We are also hoping to start regular columns in the DonsidePiper on how the Don is fishing together with articles on mink and voles and other aspects of Donside wildlife on the website.

December River Report (8 Jan)

 Well done ADAA (7th.Nov)

Since June 2008 the ADAA has been operating a voluntary contribution on their visitor tickets and have raised £104  for the River Don Trust. It is hoped to develop this initiative next year.

The River Don Trust (29th. October)

Was officially launched last night, 29th. October,  at the Don District Salmon Fishery Board's  AGM, when Trust Chairman Dave Gordon outlined the progress made to date and advised a River Don Fisheries Management Plan will be out for consultation in approx four weeks time

Don River Management Plan launched (20 th.Nov)

As promised the RDFMP has now been launched and all interested parties are encouraged to review and comment on the document  by using the link at the bottom of the left hand column below.

Hatchery Visit (18th.Nov)

  An ADAA visit to the Don Hatchery today (11th. Nov.)  raised approx. £200 to continue the Hatcheries good work. I'm no Martin Scorsese but a short video can be viewed - here

Obstacle Removal (31 Jan)

Bids have been made to fund the removal of four obstructions to the passage of fish on the Don. Read the latest on efforts to remove obstacles ( photos linked) to fish movements in the river --Here

Hogweed Survey (20th. Apr)

The DDSFB carried out an initial survey for this invasive species last year with a view to spraying taking place as soon as funding is available. This will also be part of the Biosecurity Plan which is scheduled for completion in Jan 2011. It can be read --Here

Scale sampling Training Session (29 March)

As previously advised the first of a series of scale sampling sessions took place at our Cluny  offices  on 29th. March. See short report and photos  Here

March Brown Survey (16 Mar)

The Trust is looking to establish a programme for identifying and recording freshwater invertebrates across the catchment with the Riverfly Partnership www.riverflies.org

We are currently in discussion with our umbrella organisation RAFTS with regards to delivering the Riverfly Project to all member trusts. If anyone is interested in this topic in particular or who has already collated some records and would be willing to pass them or offer any expertise to the Trust I would be very interested in hearing from you biologist@riverdon.org.uk.
