The River Don Trust is a charitable organisation established: To advance for public benefit environmental protection and improvement by conserving and enhancing the natural biodiversity associated with the freshwater environments of the River Don.

The Trust was constituted in 2008 and by June 2009 they had completed a Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and employed a biologist to carry out the management actions outlined within the FMP.

Across Scotland a network of 24 Fishery Trusts work under their umbrella organisation the Rivers and Fisheries Trusts for Scotland (RAFTS) and alongside the Scottish Fisheries Coordination Centre (SFCC). These organisations enable larger scale projects and funding applications to be coordinated more effectively and ensure that a level of competency is achieved through SFCC qualifications and that standardised data collection protocols are adhered to.

Examples of the duties carried out by the River Don Trust are detailed below and in more detail in the Projects page.

The trust work includes vigorous programmes of; research, monitoring, conservation, education & training, practical restoration works and the provision of advice and professional services. This work incorporates projects; with local schools and authorities, biodiversity action groups, public and government bodies, businesses and private individuals and fishery owners, anglers and district salmon fishery boards.
